Sleep...the big fight

Ever wondered why a baby born anytime in night has a tendency to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. They do not sleep due to various reason and it happens with almost every baby.

Whether you baby wants to play or is not well she refuses to go to bed and sleep at a later time which might change her sleep pattern and in turn disturb your sleep.

Most of the moms try everything they know just to get their baby sleep comfortably during the night. I remember I had spent whole of my night staying awake carrying her rocking her and trust me its not a good thing to do. Mothers get irritated and this lack of proper sleep results in depression leading to poor health and strained relationships between husband and wife as well as mother and baby.

So here's what I tried and it really really helped me preventing all this due to depression and frustration.
  1. Followed a daily routine before going to sleep so she knew the time has come to sleep when we lie down on the bed and switch off the lights. For few days she resisted this change but gradually she followed this pattern.
  2. Before going to sleep giving her an oil massage eased her so it helped a lot.
  3. Feeding her properly so her stomach is full for the rest of the night.
Every mother follows a different way to ease her baby to sleep. Babies feel very insecure so try to cuddle with them very often, it helps in boosting their confidence and sense of security.

The importance of Sign Language to communicate with your child

When my baby was 8 months old sometimes I found it really difficult to understand what exactly she wanted or what was bothering her. I used to get frustrated and upset. All this time the only way she could communicate was by screaming and crying. And its a real pain to not being able to understand your child's problem.
That was when I learnt about Sign Language. Oh Please no, don't start thinking that Sign Language is only for hearing impaired kids. Sign Language can be used by everyone.
Generally we communicate with our hands and mouth moving together in a synchronised manner and babies learn this GESTURE talking very easily.
So I started using my hands to communicate with my daughter. Though it was not that easy and it took many repititive actions to register in her mind. I used to ask her if she was hungry by pointing my finger in my mouth. It took her awhile but I was really happy when one day she pointed her finger towards her mouth to convey that she was hungry.
So over a period of 2 months I taught her many signs like Stomach Pain, Thank You, Sorry, Drink water, Bird, Flower, Door open, Door close, Sleepy, Please, Lets go out, Butterfly, Give me a hug, I love you and a lot more.
It gave me such an immense pleasure that now I can chat with my daughter and we can share our thoughts about just anything. We used to talk about birds, about flowers and other stuff. That was one of my favorite  moments wth my daughter.

There is this myth that sign language hinders the baby's ability to talk but its all wrong. My baby's Pediatrician clarified that the opposite is true. Instead of hindering the talking ability Sign Language helps in promoting it. Since through Sign Language a baby can easily learn and relate to the meaning of the already known sign. In Sign language not only you sign the word but you also speak the word so baby notices motion of the hands signing the word as well as hears the word.

But it takes a lot of patience and repetition of the sign for your baby to pick up that sign. Once learned you can spend hours chatting with your baby discussing about a bird flying or kids playing.

Sign language has proved to be an effective mode of communication for me and my baby. Now its your time to learn.

The most DIFFICULT job

Yeah right..this one comes straight from the heart.
Being a mother is the toughest job and all you ladies in the world including my mother hats off to your patience and the efforts you had put in raising each one of us.
It is what I am doing right now and I believe that most of you would agree with me after knowing what it is.
Well after being on sabbatical leave for a two and a half years now is the time that I have to start going to office again.
OFFICE..no that's not the problem.
The problem is that after spending so much time with my baby girl she isn't letting me go so easily. Since her birth she has never been without me.
So I thought may be if I get her enrolled in a Pre-school with a day boarding facility it would be a good idea. She'll enjoy there and make friends but to my disappointment its did not help at all.
The minute I start getting her ready for school she starts crying and she cries for the rest of the day as well..doesn't eat anything and it goes like this everyday.
I am just so confused and upset..just don't know what to do.
Its making me crazy to see her like that everyday..and so it has become the most difficult job for me to drop her at school and leave for my office.
God help me please.
